A year at the kitchen: the seasons we can document

Four recurring seasons have evidence behind them. This page lays them out month by month and says where our records stop.

The short version

The kitchen's documented seasons are Chinese New Year (January to February), Mother's Day (May), National Day (August) and Mid-Autumn (September to October). Each brings limited items, usually crab or festive pies. We have no documented Christmas menu, so this page does not list one.

A season at Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab is a short window in which one or two items appear that are not on the printed menu all year. They are usually advance orders, they are usually limited, and they usually leave when the window closes. This page puts the four we can document on one calendar.

What do the seasons look like across a year?

When Season What we can document
January to February Chinese New Year The Fa Cai set of two Singapore Pies, $26.80, and the Galloping Prosperity Yu Sheng, $48.80, in 2026
May Mother’s Day A pink cast-iron pot of steamed crab on glutinous rice, $288, and 5 and 9 course menus on 9 to 11 May 2025; the Signature Experience with an XL+ crab in 2026
August National Day Golden Salted Egg Crab, Medium $68.80, Large $88.80, XL $108.80
September to October Mid-Autumn The 2024 Moon-Pie and the 2026 Lotus Pie, both with early bird pricing

The months are the months of the festivals, not the months in which the kitchen opened orders. We have dates for only some of the windows, and the season pages say which.

What stays the same between seasons?

The printed menu. Pies are $6.80 for a personal size and $33.80 for a whole one on the three core chicken pies, and the five signature crab styles start at $39.80, all as of October 2026. Our post on the February 2026 menu has the details. The seasons sit on top of that menu and do not replace it.

What do the seasons have in common?

Three habits show up again and again.

  1. They are crab-led, or pie-led. Mother’s Day in 2025 and 2026 and National Day are led by crab. Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn are led by pies and pastry, with one yu sheng made with crab stick.
  2. They are limited. Sets are described as limited, as a limited-time special or as seasonal, and some carry early bird prices.
  3. They sit at the flagship first. The Mother’s Day 2025 menu was marked as exclusive to 39 Tyrwhitt Road, and the full crab range is prepared there.

When do pre-orders usually open?

We do not know, and we will not guess. The catalogue and the pages we read give the festival and, for some items, a window of dates, but not the day pre-orders opened. What we can say is that Mid-Autumn items in 2024 and 2026 both carried an early bird price, which means the first part of a window can be cheaper. The list hears about windows first, which is the main reason to join it.

What about Christmas and the year end?

We have no documented Christmas or year-end menu, so we do not list one. One catalogue card for The Flounder’s Crabby Choice reads “Seasonal Menu, Exclusively at 39 Tyrwhitt Road” and shows a snowflake, but it names no occasion, so we do not claim one for it. If a year-end menu appears, it will be dated and written up here the day we can source it.

How should you plan around the seasons?

  • Treat the date of the festival as the deadline, not the starting gun. Seasonal items are advance orders, and many are limited.
  • Plan crab for a day ahead. Whole crab dishes need one day’s notice, and the sharing sets need three hours.
  • Check the outlet. The full crab range is at Tyrwhitt Road, and AMK Hub carries a limited range of only the soup and the laksa. See the outlets page.
  • Read the allergen line. The kitchen says its products contain nuts, eggs, dairy and gluten, and crab dishes contain shellfish.
  • Remember the dietary position. No pork, no lard, not Halal-certified.

For ordering, the kitchen’s own site is buy.chickenpie.sg, where seasonal items are listed for their window. For larger orders, such as festive gifts for an office, the kitchen takes bulk orders from 100 pieces upward through marketing@chickenpie.sg, and how to order bulk pies for an office is explained, with minimums and lead times, on donpieshop.com.
