The short version

For Chinese New Year 2026, which fell on 17 February, the kitchen offered the Fa Cai set of two Singapore Pies at $26.80, served with achar and chilli sauce, and the Galloping Prosperity Yu Sheng at $48.80, made with crab stick. Both were limited seasonal items.

Chinese New Year 2026 fell on Tuesday 17 February, and the kitchen put two seasonal items on the table for it: a pair of pies with auspicious stamps, and a yu sheng for the toss.

What was the Fa Cai set?

The Fa Cai set was two Singapore Pies. The Singapore Pie is a soya sauce chicken and rice pie, filled with tender soya sauce chicken, premium Akita rice and braised egg, seasoned with ginger, sesame oil and garlic. For the new year the pies were stamped with the characters Cai (財) and Fa (發), which together read Fa Cai (發財), the greeting for prosperity. The set came with local achar and the kitchen’s signature chilli sauce.

The listed price was $26.80, shown against a struck-through $28.80. The page carried a note that sets were limited because the pies are handmade, which is the usual reason a seasonal pie sells out. The pie and its background, including how it relates to a Hainanese chicken rice tradition, are told on the Singapore Pie site; its page on the pie itself is the place to read it.

What was the Galloping Prosperity Yu Sheng?

A yu sheng, the colourful shredded salad that is tossed high with chopsticks at a Chinese New Year table, built here with crab stick. It was $48.80 in the ordering catalogue. 2026 was the Year of the Horse, which fits the name. We do not hold a size or serving count for it, and we do not hold the date it first went on sale, so this page gives the price and the ingredients named in the catalogue and stops there.

Why do pies carry Fa and Cai?

Fa (發) means to prosper and Cai (財) means wealth. Said together, Fa Cai is a standard Chinese New Year wish. Stamping the two characters on a pie lets one pie say half the greeting and a pair say all of it, which is how a set of two makes sense as a gift. The copy that went with the set put the idea in the kitchen’s own words: if you want Fa, Cai, or Fa Cai, get both.

What should you check before ordering a seasonal pie set?

  • Pre-order date. Seasonal sets are ordered ahead. We have no record of when pre-orders usually open, so watch the list and the ordering site.
  • Collection outlet. Advance orders are collected from the outlet you order at. Check which outlet you chose.
  • Dietary notes. The kitchen states that its products contain nuts, eggs, dairy and gluten. No pork and no lard is used in the kitchen, and the kitchen is not Halal-certified.
  • Cancellation. The ordering site does not allow amendments or cancellations after an order is placed.

Update, 8 October 2026. Chinese New Year 2026 has passed, so both items were a limited run. The Singapore Pie site still carried the Fa Cai set when it was last revised in January, and the Yu Sheng is still in the ordering catalogue as of this date. Whether either returns is something we will announce to the list first. The current prices and menus are on the ordering site.

The seasonal pattern around the new year, as far as we can document it, is gathered on the Chinese New Year season page, and the whole calendar is on a year at the kitchen. If you would like the next pre-order notice sent to you, use the Join page.
